Shield
The shield is white and national flag blue for Infantry. The participation of the former organization, then the 298th Regiment Infantry, in the Hawaiian Rebellion of 1895 is indicated by Diamond Head, where one important engagement occurred. The Hawaiian warrior commemorates the ancient warrior, King Kamehameha, who founded the Hawaiian Kingdom.

The coat of arms was originally approved for the 298th Infantry Regiment on 5 May 1936. It was redesignated for the 227th Engineer Battalion on 25 October 1957. It was redesignated for the 298th Artillery Regiment on 13 April 1962. The insignia was redesignated for the 298th Regiment with the blazon and symbolism revised on 6 March 1997.
